Snowmobiles are not designed to cover as many miles as vehicles. Usually, sleds are well beyond their youth after 3,000 miles or so. However, proper and regular inspections and maintenance can prolong the service life of your sled and make it work like new even after hitting this serious mark. Of course, you can buy a new snowmobile every couple of years, but proper maintenance is much more budget-friendly. In our online store you can find a tremendous range of components for regular maintenance, which will help you keep your sled in optimum working condition for a long time. Our range includes oil and chemicals, cleaning supplies, tools, stands and lift, fuel cans, and much more.
The most suitable time to maintain a snowmobile is in summer, or after the winter season, when it's not used, and you have enough time to get replacement parts. One of the easiest maintenance procedures is injecting fresh grease in the chassis of the sled to ensure that it has needed lubrication. Check a slippery surface on the bottom of your snowmobile’s suspension rails named hyfax. If the hyfax material is not enough (less than 1/8 inch under the wear limit line), the rails and track can suffer serious damage, often irreparable. Headlights, tail lights, and brake lights should be checked too.
Inspect wear bars of your sled to be sure that your skis will cope with abuse in case of low-snow riding conditions. Each bar should feature cutting carbide, if carbide is almost gone or gone completely, the bar has to be replaced. There are a bit more complicated maintenance procedures as well. They include changing chaincase oil and setting chain tension (these procedures are usually made at the same time). It is also recommended to inspect brake pads, clutch, wheels and bearings, torque arms, suspension rails, and hardware before riding.
